Your new crown is designed to be very durable, and with proper care and cleaning it should last for many years to come. Unfortunately, there can be a few rare occasions, such as a blow to the face or chronic gum disease that can affect the abutment of your crown. Even though the crown remains in place it might wiggle or feel loose.

If you do have a loose crown, you should make every effort to contact us as soon as possible. We can advise you on how to best manage the situation and schedule an appointment to take care of the problem before damage it done to the abutment anchoring the crown to your jaw.

It’s important to avoid wiggling it with your tongue or chewing on it. Do not attempt to clean or brush the crown, you should leave this to your dentist. The more the loose crown is manipulated the greater the chance there is of causing damage to the abutment inside.

If the crown was knocked loose by a blow to the face and you have blood or debris in your mouth, you can gently rinse the area with salt water. This will clean the area without irritating the tissues. Avoid using antiseptic mouthwash as this can also cause pain and irritation.
